Men’s Volleyball Finishes Home Season

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Volleyball Team wrapped their home season Saturday night against Long Beach, who came away with a 3-0 win. The Gauchos also celebrated four seniors – Joe Wallace, Andreas Schuetz, Ben Pearson, and Owen Loncar

HOW IT HAPPENED
Long Beach took the first set 25-13. The Gauchos initially stayed within reach of the Beach, but by 15-10 LBSU pulled far enough ahead to comprehensively win the set. Josh Aruya put up the best offensive performance of any player on the court, going three for four from center net.

The Gauchos made up some ground in the second, though Long Beach won 25-20. Santa Barbara stayed on top of Long Beach, keeping it equal through 14-14. The Beach pushed ahead following the final tie and made 11 points to close the set. Riggs Guy placed a set-high of six kills while hitting .250.

Santa Barbara improved in the third, where they stayed closer to Long Beach and led multiple times. They had three leads from 7-6 to 11-10 and nearly caught the Beach later in the set. Ultimately, LBSU clinched the third 25-21. Aruya went three for four once more and Guy hit 100% with three kills.

Guy led the match in kills, being the only player to reach double digits with ten. He hit .368, dug four digs, and made a team-high two blocks. He also made 26 receptions , the highest of the match by nine.

Aruya had a stellar offensive night, making seven kills off of just ten attempts. Owen Loncar secured a .600 kill percentage with three kills off of five attempts. Cole Schobel led in digs, making six.
