UCSB Prepares for Packed Weekend at Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay, and Long Beach

GOLETA, Calif. (Apr. 15)  – UCSB Track and Field will split off for another three meet weekend, sending Gauchos to the Mt. Sac Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and the Beach Invitational. 

MT SAC INVITATIONAL 
20 select Gauchos have qualified to compete across 13 different events at the 66th annual Mt Sac Relays hosted at the famous Hilmer Lodge Stadium, an opportunity to face off the country's top programs at one of the most competitive invitationals of the track season.

The competition will take place on Friday, with women's heats preceding the men's for each event. The track will open with the 4x100m relays at 11:00 a.m., followed by Maddie Conte competing in the 100m hurdles, and Pyrce Edwards and Miles Maris in the 110m hurdles. 

Freshman Mattheo Lacasia will represent UCSB in the 400m, with Matt Staples following in the 100m. Maddie Conte will return to the track for the 400m hurdles, with Mac Lamkin and Finn Andrews on the men's side.

Matt Staples will double in the 200m, and Svea Wickelgren following in the 800m. The track will conclude with the 4x400m relays, slotted for 5:40 p.m.

The field will open for Santa Barbara at 11:00 a.m., with Natalie Lyons representing the Gauchos  in women's long jump. Kennedy Johnson will compete in the triple jump, which is slotted to start at 3:00 p.m.

BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
21 Gauchos from the distance team have been accepted into the highly competitive Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, for competition Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Bryan Clay will kick off on Thursday with the 10,000m run starting at 7:00 a.m., highlighting Lexi Darley and Lindsey Reed for Santa Barbara. The steeple chase will feature two Gauchos in the evening session, with Jana Barron competing at 5:10 p.m. and Manny Correia competing at 6:10 p.m.

Friday's competition will open with the 5,000m run for a morning session at 7:00 a.m., with select heats beginning at 6:40 p.m. This event will feature Addie Oversmith, Ryann Strawn, Mathew Galindo, Nate Osborn, Zach Parker, and Parker Stickney. Friday will also feature the 800m in the afternoon session, with Noah Gordon, Niall Monteleone, David Winston, Kenna Bradley, and Isabel Ross competing.

The 1500m run will conclude the meet for UCSB on Saturday, with performances from Sierra Gill, Jordin Liberman, Isabel Ross, Manny Correia, Carson Hedlund, Parker Herbert, Niuall Monteleone, Will Mulliken, Zach Parker, Parker Simmons, and David Winston

BEACH INVITATIONAL
The remainder of the UCSB Track and Field team will compete at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State for two days of competition. Friday's field will include pole vault, long and triple jump, and hammer throw. The track will feature competition in the 400m, 200m, 100m, and 800m.

Saturday field will see more heats of discus, shot put, pole vault, long and triple jump, and hammer throw. Saturday track will feature a regular track program starting at 10:00 a.m.

LAST MEET
At last weekend's Challenge Cup, the UC Santa Barbara women's team captured the team title for the first time since 2018, highlighted by a school record performance in the 4x100 relay and several key scoring finishes across the track and field events.

Sierra Gill won the 1500m in 4:36.3), followed by Jordin Lieberman in second, while Kenna Bradley captured the 800m with 2:10.80 and Isabel Ross close behind in a personal best 2:11.18. Maddie Conte anchored the hurdles group with wins in both the 100m hurdles (13.88) and 400m hurdles (59.59), and Parker Halgren added a second place finish and personal best in the 100m  with 11.64.

On the men's side, Matt Staples led the sprints with a personal best 10.40 for second in the 100m and returned to place third in the 200m, while Parker Herbert with 3:56.93 in the 1500m and Noah Gordon placing second in the 800m highlighted the distance group. UCSB also added key points with second place finishes in both the men's 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
