(Apr. 8) – The UC Santa Barbara Track and Field team will head south to Cal State Fullerton for the annual Challenge Cup on Friday, while the Gaucho multis squad opens competition on Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, for the heptathlon and decathlon.

CHALLENGE CUP
The 31st annual Challenge Cup will be hosted by Cal State Fullerton this year, with UCSB set to compete against Long Beach State and UC Irvine as well. The top two athletes from each team will be placed in the fastest heats and flights, with men's events preceding the women's.
The UCSB men finished second at last year's Challenge Cup in Irvine, while the women placed fourth. Both squads will look to build on that experience as they have a rare opportunity to face off against solely Big West competition early in the season.
The field events will open the meet, starting with hammer throw at 12:00 p.m. Discus, javelin, and shot put will follow throughout the day for the throws events. Jumps will feature pole vault and long jump both at 3:00 pm, followed by triple jump and high jump.
The track will get underway in the evening at 5:30 p.m. for the 4x100m relays. Next up will be the 1500m run, the short hurdles, and 400m. The 100m is slated for 7:00 p.m., followed by the 800, 400m hurdles, and 200m. The 4x400 will close out the meet.
