Gauchos Split Across Three Meets This Weekend

GOLETA, Calif. (Apr. 1) –  The UC Santa Barbara Track and Field team will split across three meets this weekend, competing throughout both Southern and Northern California. The distance squad will be featured at the Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival, hosted by San Francisco State, while another group of Gauchos travel south for the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego. Select athletes are also slated to compete at the highly competitive Stanford Invitational, held at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

STANFORD INVITE
This season marks the highest number of program acceptances into the Stanford Invite, with competition spanning across two days. On Friday, competition will kick off in the field at 10:00 a.m. with women's long jump, javelin, and high jump. Friday's track events will feature the prelims for the 100m hurdles at 10:37 a.m., followed by the 110m hurdles prelims, the 100m prelims, the 400m, the 400m hurdles, the 200m, and concluding with the 300m steeplechase at 5:43 p.m.

Saturday field will spotlight Kennedy Johnson representing UCSB in the triple jump at 1:00 p.m.. The track events will resume with the 4x100m relays at 1:10 p.m., followed by the 800, and finals for the 100m dash, 100m hurdles, and 110m hurdles. The meet will wrap up with the 4x400m relays at 4:48 p.m.

MIKE FANELLI DISTANCE CARNIVAL
Friday's distance events will kick off with the 5000m run, the first gun going off at 8:20 a.m. Following will be the 3000m steeplechase and the 1500m. Women will precede the men in each event, with the 1500m and 5000m alternating women and men heats.

Saturday will begin again at 8:30 a.m., this time with the 10000m, followed by the 800m, one mile, two mile, and Distance Medley Relay. Each day is expected to end around 6:30 p.m.

TRITON INVITE
Down in San Diego, competition will begin in the field with the women's hammer at 9:00 a.m., followed by men's discus at 4:00 p.m. On the track, the Gauchos will be featured in the 200m at 3:00 p.m.

On Saturday, shot put will start at 9:00 a.m, followed by pole vault at 10:00 a.m.. The 110m hurdles will begin at 1:10 p.m., followed by the 100m dash and 400m hurdles.

The Gauchos will be seen in action next weekend, with the multis squad heading to the Bryan Clay Heptathlon and Decathlon, as well as the annual Challenge Cup hosted this year by Fullerton.
