UCSB Set to Face Westmont for a Dual Meet

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Mar. 13) – After a successful opening weekend at home, the Gauchos will remain in Santa Barbara as they take on Westmont in a dual meet this Friday. The standalone matchup against the Warriors gives UC Santa Barbara an opportunity to build on last weekend's strong performances as they settle into the outdoor season. 

FIELD
The Westmont Dual will kick off in the field, with the men's hammer throw at 11 a.m. Women's long jump is slotted for noon, with the men's event and triple jump to follow. At 12:15 p.m., the pole vault will start with the women's competition, followed by the men's. High jump will begin at 12:45 p.m., alongside shot put and javelin. Men's discus will round out the field at 2:00 p.m., with women's to follow.

TRACK
This dual will feature 13 track events, providing the Gauchos the unique opportunity to compete in events not typically run during the outdoor season, with women preceding the men in every event.

The first gun will go off at 1:00 p.m. for the 2000m steeplechase, followed by the 4x100m relay, and 2000m run.

The 100m hurdles is scheduled for 1:55 p.m., followed by the 110m hurdles, 400m, 100m, and 4x800m relay. At 2:55 p.m., the 600m will begin, with 400m hurdles, 200m, and 3000m following. The dual will conclude with the 4x400m relay, slotted for 4:00 p.m.

LAST MEET
The Gauchos opened their 2026 outdoor season at home with two meets: Sam Adam's Combined Events and Gaucho Relays. 

Sam Adam's Combined Events featured four Gauchos on the podium, and six personal records in the decathlon and heptathlon. Hudson Shaver won the decathlon for UCSB with a score of 7127, which puts him tenth in school history for the combined event. Jess Mackenzie took first overall in the heptathlon with a score of 5424, with her long jump mark of 5.80m impressively placing her third in school history.

Building on the momentum from the multis, Gaucho Relays yielded school records and program top 10 performances. 

Mia Shepard took down the 100m school record by an impressive 0.22 seconds, clocking in a time of 11.58. In the hurdles, Maddie Conte took first in the 400m hurdles and 100m hurdles, and Pyrce Edwards found victory in the 110m hurdles with a personal record of 14.13. For the distance events, Zach Parker won the 5000m with a time of 14:35.81, and Ryann Strawn crossed the line first in the 2000m steeple chase.  

In the field,  Kayla Yap opened her season with a first place finish in hammer throw with a score of 55.76m, placing her sixth in school history for the event. Dimitra Vitogiannis also etched her name into the top 10 for discus, with a mark of 50.80m. Kendal Handy placed second in the long jump for his collegiate debut, while Monroe Barnum took second in the triple jump.

A select crew of qualifying Gauchos will have the opportunity to compete in the annual Jim Bush Legends meet, hosted by UCLA on March, 28.
