UCSB Set to Host Last Home Meet of the Season

GOLETA, Calif. (Apr. 21) – UC Santa Barbara track and field returns home this weekend to host a two day meet at Pauley Track on Friday and Saturday, featuring senior recognition, select youth races, the alumni mile, and a student organization 4x100m relay.

FIELD
Field events will open the meet on Friday, beginning with the men's and women's discus at 2 p.m., followed by the shot put at 4 p.m.

Saturday's field schedule begins at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw. High jump will follow at 10 a.m., while pole vault, long jump and triple jump are also set to take place throughout the day. The javelin will wrap up field competition at 1:30 p.m.

TRACK
The youth 100m will kick off competition on the track Friday at 4:45. Saturday will feature the youth 800m heats at 11:30, followed by the alumni mile, and student organization 4x100m relay.

Saturday's main track events will begin following the national anthem at noon with the 4x100m relays. The 1500m is set for 12:15 p.m., with the short hurdles, 400m and 100m preliminary heats to come after.

The 800m is scheduled for 2:15 p.m., followed by the 100m finals.

Recognition for the 2001 UCSB men's cross country championship team is set for 2:45 p.m., before the meet continues with the 400m hurdles and 200m.

Senior recognition for the graduating Gauchos will begin at 3:55 p.m., celebrating their accomplishments both on the track and in the classroom, as they look toward the future ahead.

Track competition will resume at 4:10 p.m. with the 4x400m relays, while the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m will close out the meet.

LAST MEET

UCSB track and field split off for three meets last weekend, including the Mt SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and Beach Invitational. 


At the 66th Mt SAC Relays, Matt Staples added a strong showing in the men's 100m, taking fourth overall in 10.44. Maddie Conte ran a season best in the 400m hurdles, later returning to the track for a  13.73 finish in the invitational section of the 100m hurdles. Finn Andrews clocked in one of the strongest performances of the weekend, breaking his own school record in the 400m hurdles to finish third overall in the invitational section. With  50.11, Andrews sits first in the Big West and 13th in the NCAA for the event. 


At the Beach Invitational, Anna Josephson led the Gauchos in the 400m hurdles with a personal record of 1:00.70. Josephson now sits 9th all time in the program top 10 list for the event. In just his second time long jumping after transitioning from sprints, freshman Kendal Handy landed an impressive 7.13m in the long jump. 


At Bryan Clay, the distance squad led in personal records. Manny Correia finished first in his 1500m heat, clocking in 3:48.80. In the invitational section for the 1500m, Sierra Gill led UCSB with a 4:34.49 finish. In the 800m, Noah Gordon finished with a personal record of 1:51.26 and Kenna Bradly crossed the line in  2:09.50.
