No. 36 UC Santa Barbara Secures Top Seed for Big West Championship in San Diego

| By:
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – All seven Big West teams are set to compete for The Big West Championship from April 22–25 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON
In their spring campaign, the Blue and Gold posted a 16-7 overall record, including an 8-2 mark at home and a 5-1 record on the road. Against ranked opponents, the Gauchos went 5-6, with five of those matchups coming against top-10 teams, highlighted by a marquee win over No. 10 UCLA. They conclude the regular season ranked No. 36 nationally.

Heading into the postseason, individually, Dominique Rolland is ranked No. 64, Lucca Liu sits at No. 110, and the doubles pairing of Liu and Miguel Avendano is ranked No. 65. Liu also earned three Big West Player of the Week honors on Jan. 28, Feb. 4, and Mar. 25, and went 5-2 against nationally ranked opponents.

In conference play, the Gauchos claimed a share of the Big West regular season title, finishing 5-1 alongside UC Irvine and Cal Poly. Their lone loss came in the regular season finale, a tightly contested 4-3 defeat to Cal Poly that resulted in the three-way tie atop the standings.

ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Despite the shared regular season title, UC Santa Barbara secured the No. 1 seed, marking it their fifth year in a row on the top, and a double bye into the semifinals. The Gauchos will take the court at the Barnes Tennis Center on April 25, with their opponent to be determined, either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed.

In 2025, No. 2 seed UC Irvine defeated No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara 4-3 in the championship match to claim the program's sixth title. The Gauchos will look to bounce back this year.
