SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis program announced the addition of the No. 1 U18 junior player in Mexico, Marianne Angel. The Gauchos tennis program, which has won the last three regular season Big West Championships and the previous two tournament championships, adds to an already deep roster.
"We're thrilled to welcome Marianne Angel from Mexico," said Thibodeau. "She's one of the top junior recruits. She is a complete player with multiple ITF singles and doubles titles. Beyond her talent, her work ethic, positivity and strong academics make her a perfect fit. We're proud to add her to our Gaucho family."
The incoming freshman currently ranks as the No. 1 U18 player in Mexico and No. 93 in the world. She has ranked as high as 86
th in the world and has secured seven singles and 11 doubles ITF titles in her young career.
Angel will join a Gaucho program that has amassed 194 wins under Head Coach
Simon Thibodeau and has gone to the NCAA Tournament six times, twice reaching the second round. Most recently, the Gauchos won The Big West Regular Season and Tournament Championships with a perfect 9-0 conference record and a 17-9 overall record.
