LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
Seniors Marielle Gruenig and Chelsea Glynn performed flawlessly for the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team Wednesday afternoon, but the Gauchos could not muster any other victories and fell 5-2 at Loyola Marymount.
With its non-conference loss at the LMU Tennis Stadium, UCSB dropped to 11-7 in dual meet action, while the Lions upped their overall record to 7-9.
The home team won two of the three double contests, with Santa Barbara's lone victory coming at the top spot where Gruenig and Glynn teamed to shutout their Lion opponents 8-0.
The senior duo then posted UCSB's only two victories in singles action. Gruenig defeated LMU's Pavla Mesterova 6-4, 7-5 on court No. 1 while Glynn breezed past Robyn Baker 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. However Loyola Marymount posted straight-set victories on courts three through five, with Brittany Kausen being the only Gaucho to push her match to three sets. The sophomore was locked in a heated battle with Erin Ivey before ultimately falling 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
Santa Barbara returns home and resumes Big West Conference action on Saturday, April 1, hosting Pacific at 11:00 a.m. at the UCSB Tennis Stadium.
