LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No. 66 UC Santa Barbara had three players battle to three sets, but in the end the seventh-ranked USC women's tennis team defeated the Gauchos, 7-0.
Playing at No. 1, UCSB's Natalia Lozano played USC's Zoe Scandalis, the 10th-ranked player in the nation, and pushed her to three sets before losing, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. At No. 4, Paola Cos also went three sets against Gabriella DeSimone before losing, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.
The Gauchos also battled hard in the doubles matches. At No. 2, Lozano and freshman April Scatliffe pushed Danielle Lao and Alison Ramos before losing, 8-6. At No. 1, Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria, the fourth-ranked team in the nation, defeated Jordan Dockendorf and Kiersten Meehan, 8-4.
UCSB is now 2-7 on the season. The Gauchos return to Big West action on Saturday when they host Pacific at 11:00 a.m. on the Robertson Gymnasium Courts.
