RIVERSIDE, Calif.- The No. 57 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (13-8) ended their two match losing streak as they beat UC Riverside (4-14) by a score of 7-0.
The Gauchos were able to win every match that went on court, starting with doubles. Stacy Yam and Jaimee Gilbertson continued their domination together as they took down Karla Dulay and Tamilia Vaksman 8-0.
Melissa Baker and Luisa Ortiz Candido added to the sweep with a 8-4 win of their own, and the Gauchos welcomed back freshman Lou Adler, who played in her first match since Feb 5 when she went out with a stress fracture in her foot.
Adler teamed up with Natalie Da Silveira to get the 8-2 win to complete the doubles sweep.
The Gauchos carried their momentum into singles where every player was able to get a win.
After a close first set, Da Silveira was able to come back and blank her opponent in the second, getting the 7-6, 6-0 win at number one singles, a new position for the freshman who has played primarily at the number two slot.
Gilbertson, playing two today, got the 6-2, 6-1 win, and Baker in her usual three position got a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 win of her own.
Yam got bumped up a spot in the lineup to play number four. Despite the move, she was able to get the 6-1, 6-0 win.
April Scatliffe played number five, where she was able to cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 victory, and Candido helped the Gauchos out with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number six.
