HONOLULU, Hawaii- The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (5-4) went into Hawaii and stole a match from the No. 64 Rainbow Warriors (5-3) bye a score of 4-2 to remain undefeated in Big West action this season and to extend their win streak to four straight.
The Gauchos recently fell out of the ITA rankings and Palina Dubavets and Stefani Stojic fell to #18 in the doubles rankings. This didn't stop the Gauchos from getting the job done across the Pacific.
Despite their drop in the rankings, Stojic and Dubavets continued their winning ways, improving to 7-0 on the season after a 6-0 win over Sarah Gealer and Klara Pribylova. Unfortunately, the other two Gaucho teams were unable to get wins as Lou Adler and her partner Amanda Atanasson lost 6-2, and Melissa Baker and Stephanie Yamada lost 6-4.
Going into singles down 1-0, Natalie Da Silveira put the Gauchos on the board with ehr 6-4, 6-4 win over Paulina Petriskova on court six. Over on court five, Jaimee Gilbertson put the Gauchos up one as she defeated Roxanne Resma in three sets. The final score was 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Adler was the only Gauchos who lost a singles match, as she fell on court two by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Dubavets put the Gauchos within a match of the clinch, as she defeated Cindy Ngyuen on court one 7-5, 6-4.
Atanasson got the clinching match for the Gauchos on court three, as she defeated Pribylova 6-7(2-7), 6-3, 6-2.
The Gauchos will remain in Hawaii where they'll face No. 35 Oregon on Saturday at 11AM.
