SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The No. 65 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (11-7) defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders (3-12) on Sunday morning by a 7-0 score.
The Gauchos improved to 4-1 in matches against Big West opponents on the season.
UC Santa Barbara clinched the doubles point as Palina Dubavets and her partner for the day Amanda Atanasson defeated Tracy Van and Natalie Penner 6-0 on court one, and Natalie Da Silveira and Jaimee Gilbertson took down Kassie Truong and Abby Valera 6-1 on court three.
Melissa Baker extended the lead to 2-0 as she defeated Tamilla Vaksman 6-0, 6-0 on court five. Next off was Da Silveira who took down Penner 6-1, 6-0 on court four, and soon after, Gilbertson defeated Van 6-2, 6-1 to give the Gauchos the 4-0 lead.
The Gauchos continued to roll as Dubavets defeated Chloe Pham on the top court 6-1, 6-2, and Stephanie Yamada defeated Valera 6-2, 6-3 on the bottom court, bringing the score to 6-0 in favor of UC Santa Barbara.
Atanasson clinched the Gauchos' perfect match as she was able to beat Karla Dulay 6-4, 6-3 on court three, giving the Gauchos their 7-0 win.
The Gauchos will continue their Big West action on April 9 as they travel to UC Irvine. That match will take place at 12PM.
