SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis team fell to Harvard by a score of 5-2.

"Harvard played tough today. Thumbs up to them," said the head coach Simon Thibodeau. "We had chances in every singles and doubles matches but couldn't take care of enough wins." 

In doubles, the Gauchos started with a win as the duo of Palina Dubavets and Melissa Baker defeated Erica Oosterhout and June Lee 6-3 at No.1 Next, Harvard's Irene Lu and Natasha Gonzalez defeated Jaimee Gilbertson and Natalie Da Silveira 7-5 at No.2. No.3 Amanda Atanasson and Stephanie Yamada fell to Sabrina Xiong and Annika Ringblom 7-6.

In singles, No.6 Baker won against Xiong 6-4, 7-5. Harvard took the next 3 consecutive wins as No.5 Gonzalez defeated Amit Lev-Ari 7-6, 6-3, No.1 Oosterhout defeated Dubavets 6-4, 5-7, 7-6, and No. 3 Ringblom defeated Da Silveira 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. At No.4, Atanasson won against Lu by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 7-6. Lee finished the match with a win against Gilbertson 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 at No.2 

"We are looking forward to the big west conference play, after the finals and spring break," said Thibodeau.

Gauchos will remain home and play against Hawaii for Big West conference on March 30 at 1:30 p.m.
