SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis team had another win at their home court against University of San Diego by a score of 5-2.
"It was a good win for our team," said the head coach Simon Thiboedau. "San Diego started very well in singles. They were consistent. I knew though, we would fight back."
In doubles, the Gauchos routed the Toreros as the duo of Natalie Da Silveira and Jaimee Gilbertson defeated Maria-Paula Torres and Sophia Chow 6-2 at No. 2 and Stefani Stojic and Amanda Atanasson won against Nicole Anderson and Gemma Garcia 6-2 at No.3. The doubles tandem of Palina Dubavets and Melissa Baker did not have a chance to finish their match.
In singles, San Diego attempted to fight off as No.4 Colomba DiFilippo defeated Baker by a score of 6-2, 6-2. However, it did not stop UCSB as freshman Amit Lev-Ari defeated Sabrina Barkdull 6-0, 7-5 at No.6. Daniela Morales won against Da Silveira 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 taking the next win for San Diego. At No.3 Gilbertson defeated Garcia 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 and No.1 Dubavets defeated Anderson 0-6, 7-5, 6-3. Atanasson finished the match with a win against Torres by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at No.5.
Gauchos will remain home and host Denver on March 10 at 10:00 a.m.
