• The Gaucho Rewind: Gamedays 25 and 26
G25: UCSB 65, CSUN 60 - The Gauchos swept the season series against CSUN in a game the Gauchos controlled after a slow start for both squads. Following a lackluster period of scoring lasting nearly five minutes, the Gauchos rattled off three-straight triples and they carried that momentum into the second quarter, where they turned the lead into a 32-15 halftime advantage. CSUN began to claw back and got within one possession in the dying moments of the game, but UCSB held on for the win.
G26: UCSB 65, UC Riverside 47 - In contrast to the CSUN game, the Gauchos wasted no time in getting going as they jumped out to an 18-8 lead after one and a hefty 40-15 lead at the halftime break, which they would maintain en route to their third consecutive victory.
Ila Lane,
Tal Sahar, and
Coco Miller each finished with double-digit points.
• Scouting the Opposition: Cal Poly
Cal Poly sits at the bottom of the Big West standings with a 4-9 record and 7-17 overall mark. The Mustangs have lost three of their last four, most recently falling to UC Irvine away on Saturday, 54-51. After the UCSB matchup, they face CSUN at home and Hawai'i next Saturday in the regular season finale. Sierra Campisano leads the team with 16.1 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per contest. Freshman Abbey Ellis has put up 15.1 points per game and leads the team in assists with 77. The last time these two played, UCSB's
Coco Miller had a 24-point performance, her second 20-plus point performance against Cal Poly in the last three meetings dating back to last season's 33-point career-high game at the Mott Athletics Center.
• Scouting the Opposition: Long Beach State
The Beach sits in fifth in the Big West right now, with an even 6-6 record and 11-14 overall. They play at CSUN on Thursday night before coming to the Thunderdome on Saturday. Four of their last five games have resulted in losses, with the only interruption being their 59-53 home win against UCSB on Feb. 13. In that game, the two teams combined for 40 turnovers, and a strong fourth quarter got Long Beach State past the Gauchos.
Ila Lane had another double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds,
Coco Miller had 11 points, but it wasn't enough to offset Shaijah Davison's 19 and Justina King's 17.
• Gauchos in the NCAA rankings
A pair of Gauchos rank in the top 30 in the NCAA across several statistical categories.
Coco Miller has the fifth-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the country with a 2.97 mark.
Ila Lane has the most total rebounds in the country (340), highest rebounds per game average (13.1), second-highest defensive rebounds per game mark (9.3), fourth-most double-doubles (17), and the 23rd-best field goal percentage (56.6%).
In the game against Pacific on December 5,
Coco Miller's triple with 7:39 left in regulation made her the 27th member of the 1,000-point club in program history in her 102nd career game. She became the first to surpass the mark since both Nicole Nesbit and Melissa Zornig completed the feat in 2014. In the Gauchos' game against UC Irvine on Feb. 5, she also cleared 300 career assists with seven in the matchup against the Anteaters.
• Shining in the Spotlight
Ila Lane was named the Big West Player of the Week for the third time in her career on Feb. 24, becoming the first Gaucho to win the award three times since Sweets Underwood in the 2012-13 season.
