STANFORD, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team fell 7-0 in a match at No. 35 Stanford Wednesday afternoon. The Gauchos (1-3, 1-0) ran into a hot Cardinals team, undefeated in eight matches this season, and became their fourth shutout victim.
Santa Barbara came close to winning the doubles point. After Stanford took the number two matchup by a score of 6-2, Gauchos Lise Sentenac and Elizaveta Volodko pushed Stanford's Emily Arbuthnott and Angelica Blake to 7-5. At the same time, Gauchos Marta Gonzalez Balbe and Camille Kiss were tied up with Stanford's Sara Choy and Emma Higuchi at 6-6 when the match moved on to the singles portion.
In singles, Lise Sentenac's performance provided a bright spot for UCSB, sweeping the second set 6-0 before falling 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (8).
The Gauchos look to bounce back when they take on Colorado in their second home match of the season Friday at 10:00 a.m.
