SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— The seventh-ranked Gauchos stumbled in their Saturday doubleheader with visiting Oregon, losing game one 5-4 and game two 17-2. UCSB endured a bit of deja vu, as they led game one 4-0 going in to the eighth inning but could not hang on. This is the first series loss for the program since May 2019.

Game One
Michael McGreevy was a bright spot for the Gauchos in game one tossing seven shutout innings. He only allowed three hits and struck out nine, throwing over 116 pitches in the no-decision.

The home team got out to an early one-run lead thanks to a heads-up play by McClain O'Connor who came home on a wild pitch.

The game went silent until the sixth when the Gauchos added two more thanks to RBIs by Bryce Willits and Jason Willow. Marcos Castanon capped off the team's scoring in the knocking in O'Connor on a ground out.

Once again it would be the Ducks getting after the Gaucho bullpen to earn their second straight win of the series. They would score four runs in the eighth, as soon as McGreevy came out of the game, and added the game-winning run in the ninth to take it 5-4.

Christian Kirtley, Cole Cummings, and Willits all saw multi-hit games with Kirtley going 2-for-3 with a run and a walk.

Game Two
Rodney Boone took the mound to start game two but was quickly chased out after the Ducks posted yet another big inning with an eight-run second. Only one run would go down as earned due to an error earlier in the inning.

UCSB had bases loaded in the first inning but was only able to come away with one run on an RBI single by Castanon. 

Oregon closed out the night scoring six more in the next four innings, and three more in the final two against a medley of Gaucho pitchers. Nick Welch, Ben Fariss, and Jorge Arellano Jr. each made their first appearances of the season and Hayden Hattenbach made his second.

Cummings was once again effective at the plate going a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks. He finished the doubleheader going 4-for-7.

UCSB will look to grab its first win in tomorrow with Cory Lewis on the mound for the final game of the series.
