ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Shakhnoza Khatamova grinded out a singles win on court one, but it wasn't enough for the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team in a 4-1 loss to Arizona State Saturday. This was the Gauchos' (1-3) second and final match at the ITA Kickoff Weekend event hosted by UCF at the USTA National Campus. The Sun Devils (4-1) were the latest of a string of tough opponents Santa Barbara has had on the schedule to open the season.
How it Happened
- ASU's Giulia Morlet and Marianna Argyrokastriti took down Kira Reuter and Amelia Honer 6-1 on doubles court two
- The Sun Devils then secured the doubles point with a 6-3 court three win by Cali Jankowski and Sedona Gallagher over Filippa Bruu-Syversen and Camille Kiss
- Khatamova and Elizaveta Volodko were engaged in a 4-4 battle on court one when the match moved on to the singles portion
- Khatamova's singles win tied up the match at 1-1, defeating Morlet 6-2, 7-6 (2) on court one
- It was all Sun Devils from that point on as they won the next three singles matches to clinch the victory
- Domenika Turkovic beat Elizaveta Volodko 6-4, 6-2 on court two, Patricija Spaka took down Bruu-Syversen 7-6 (5), 6-2 on court six, and Gallagher came back to defeat Kiss 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on court three
