LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 41 UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team took down No. 12 USC 4-3 at the Marks Tennis Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Trojans were the highest-ranked opponent the Gauchos (6-5, 1-0) have beaten this season.
How it Happened
- The match kicked off with a huge 6-1 win for Gauchos Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter over the Trojans' No. 19 ranked doubles duo of Salma Ewing and Snow Han on court two
- UCSB then secured the doubles point with another 6-1 win, this one from Shakhnoza Khatamova and Elizaveta Volodko over Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper on court one
- As the match transitioned to the singles portion, the Gauchos got off to a strong start as Honer beat Sloane Morra 6-0, 6-4. USC then made it 2-1 overall with Han's 6-4, 6-1 win over Volodko on court three
- Kira Reuter then put UCSB a point away from victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 103 Danielle Willson on court six
- No. 36 Ewing beat Camille Kiss 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 on court two to make it 3-2
- Filippa Bruu-Syversen clinched the match for the Gauchos on court five, beating Piper 6-2, 0-6, 7-6(6)
- Finally, No. 5 Eryn Cayetano beat Khatamova 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(6) on court one
