CARLSBAD, Calif.— The UCSB Men's Golf team finished top-five for the third time in four tournaments Tuesday afternoon placing 5th out of 14 teams at the UC San Diego Invitational. The Gauchos saw strong performances at La Costa Champions Course carding a team total of 874 (+10).

How It Happened
- UCSB turned in a card of 293-282-299 for a team total of 874 (+10) which is the lowest score by the team in this spring season.
- The Gauchos moved up the standings after every round sitting in 7th after the first 18 holes, before shooting their best score in round two to move into 6th, and then closing out the tournament in 5th.
- UCSB's 282 in round two was the third best single-round score of the tournament
- Andrew Ricci was the top Gaucho seeing his best performance of the season shooting a 73-68-77 for a 218 (+2) which was good for a share of 16th place. His 68 (-4) was the third best score carded by any player in the tourney.
- Just a stroke behind him and tied for 20th was both Blake McGovern who had a consistent three rounds of 72-74-73 for a 219 (+3) and Julian Maxwell who went 73-69-77.
On the Scorecard
- UCSB turned in the third most birdies with 50 in the tournament and alongside Hawai'i led the way with four eagles. Ricci collected two of them.
- The Gauchos were especially good on the long holes shooting -12 on Par 5s with an average score of 4.80. That score ranked third in the tournament as did McGovern and Maxwell who shot -6 on Par 5s with an average score of 4.50.
- Ricci was consistent on the Par 4s going even in the tournament. He was one of just 10 players to accomplish this feat out of the field of 89.
Next Up
UCSB's next tournament, the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, is set for April 4-5 out in Chandler, Ariz at Whirlwind Golf Club. The week after that the Gauchos will host the annual UCSB Collegiate Invitational hosted at Sandpiper Golf Club.
