SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 29 UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by No. 5 Pepperdine Wednesday afternoon at the Arnhold Tennis Center. The loss snapped a four-match win streak, including a 4-3 win at No. 24 Stanford less than 24 hours prior to first serve Wednesday.
How it Happened
- The Gauchos opened the match with a court three doubles win with Camille Kiss and Marta Gonzalez Ballbe beating Taisiya Pachkaleva and Anastasia Iamachkine 6-2
- The Waves were able to even things up with a 6-2 victory for the No. 16 duo of Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen over No. 68 Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter on court two
- The doubles point was decided on court one in a matchup between No. 17 Victoria Flores and Lisa Zaar and No. 60 Shakhnoza Khatamova and Elizaveta Volodko. Khatamova and Volodko trailed 5-2 but were able to make things interesting, winning two in a row to make it 5-4. The Waves' duo was able to pull off the victory for the doubles point, though, winning 6-4
- Pepperdine sent out ranked players to all six courts and won three singles matches to complete the sweep. On court three, No. 17 Janice Tjen beat Camille Kiss 6-1, 6-3 and on court four, No. 79 Savannah Broadus topped Amelia Honer 6-1, 6-0
- No. 9 Shiori Fukuda earned the clinching point for the Waves, defeating the Gauchos' No. 105 Khatamova 6-3, 6-3
