Box Score NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The Gauchos made it a clean sweep Sunday afternoon as No. 24 UCSB Baseball (21-8, 10-2) downed CSUN (15-14, 4-8) 7-1 in game three of the weekend series.
On the Stat Sheet
- Freshman Ryan Gallagher (3-0) was nails in his Sunday start tossing eight full innings and allowing just one earned. He had five strikeouts and held the Matadors to a .154 batting average.
- Blake Klassen went 3-for-6 with two home runs, four RBI, and two runs.
- Christian Kirtley had three hits of his own going 3-for-5 with a walk and a run.
- Matt Ager had a clean sheet collecting all three outs in the ninth with just a walk allowed.
How It Happened
- The scoring got going in the top of the third as Sprinkle got hit by a pitch and stole second with Klassen at the plate. On a 2-0 count Klassen singled to right center to score the speedy Sprinkle and give UCSB a 1-0 lead.
- CSUN scored its only run of the contest in the fourth on a wild pitch to tie the game.
- The Gauchos hung a three in the sixth as Sprinkle hit a sac-fly to score John Newman Jr. to regain the lead at 2-1. With two outs and one on Klassen stepped in and came through again crushing his second home run of the season over the right field wall to make it 5-1.
- Three more came in the eighth with Klassen hitting a solo homer to right center and the Gauchos followed by loading the bases with one out. Nick Vogt chipped in with a sac-fly and the final run scored on a fielder's choice by Newman Jr. to give UCSB the 7-1 victory.
Next Up
UCSB now returns home to host UC San Diego in a three game series that begins on Thursday, April 14th. The Gauchos are 2-0 against the Tritons this season after meeting in Lake Elsinore earlier this season.
