Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— No. 13 UCSB Baseball (27-9, 16-2) collected its fourth conference sweep of the season Sunday afternoon pummeling Long Beach State 10-1.
On the Stat Sheet
- Ryan Gallagher was the pitcher of record improving to 4-0 on the season with his 5.2 innings of shutout baseball. He struck-out a career-high nine batters and allowed just three hits.
- Three Gauchos saw multi-hit performances with Nick Vogt going 3-for-4, Christian Kirtley going 2-for-4 with a walk and Bryce Willits going 2-for-5.
- Blake Klassen went deep for the second straight game and the third time this week with another bomb over the right field wall to give him seven on the season. Kyle Johnson and Vogt went deep as well giving the Gauchos their second straight multi-homer game. They now have 15 on the season.
- UCSB outhit LBSU 13-4 and struck out 14 Dirtbag batters in the contest.
How It Happened
- This game got broken open early as the Gauchos hung a five in the bottom of the second despite every run coming in with two outs. Jordan Sprinkle kept his hot weekend going as he stepped to the plate with runners on the corners doubled down the right line to score the first run. Broc Mortensen touched home on a wild pitch and Nick Oakley singled up the middle to score Sprinkle. Then it was Klassen hitting a two-run bomb to get UCSB out to a 5-0 lead.
- The bottom of the third saw the Gauchos extend that lead to 7-0 as Vogt went oppo for a solo homer and John Newman Jr. scored on a wild pitch after doubling and moving to third on a tag up.
- With Kirtley aboard on a leadoff single in the fifth came Johnson who smoked a ball over the right field wall and make it a 9-0 game and Kirtley made it 10-0 with an RBI single to left that scored Willits.
- UCSB nearly had the shutout but Long Beach got its first and only run in the top of the ninth.
Next Up
UCSB now heads south for a Tuesday night matchup at USC before taking the trip up to Cal Poly to face the rival Mustangs in a one-two Big West matchup.
