SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team beat No. 8 seed UC Irvine 4-0 Thursday morning in the Big West quarterfinals. The win puts the regular season champion Gauchos (18-6, 9-0) two wins away from repeating as Big West Tournament Champions and is the team's ninth consecutive victory.
How it Happened
- The powerful doubles duo of Shakhnoza Khatamova and Elizaveta Volodko, ranked No. 69 nationally, started things off for Santa Barbara with a 6-1 defeat of Jessica Tsukiji and Alyssia Fossorier on court one
- UCSB clinched the doubles point as Camille Kiss and Marta Gonzalez Ballbe won 6-1 over Dasee Carter and Shreya Pavani on court three
- The Gauchos received some dominant singles performances to clinch the victory. Kira Reuter was the first to earn a singles point, crusing past Pavani 6-0, 6-0 on court six
- Next to wrap up a win was Kiss, the reigning Big West Freshman of the Year, who took down Jenna Schlatter 6-1, 6-2 on court three, putting the Gauchos up 3-0
- Finally, Honer, the reigning Big West Player of the Week, continued her hot streak, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Fossorier on court four and clinching the trip to the semifinals for the Gauchos
