SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Feb 26, 2023) — Camille Kiss made a triumphant return to the Gaucho lineup on Sunday, earning a three-set win in singles to help UC Santa Barbara women's tennis win each of the top three singles courts against Oregon. Ultimately, it was the Ducks who took the match, 4-3.
THE MATCH
Final: UC Santa Barbara 3, Oregon 4
Records: UC Santa Barbara 1-8 (1-0 Big West), Oregon 7-3 (0-0 Pac-12)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite having Kiss back, the Gauchos remained shorthanded, and started doubles play a pairing down. Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter continued their excellent season on court one, winning a hard-fought tiebreaker, but Oregon won on court two to take the doubles point.
Honer, Kiss, and Reuter each battled their way to tough wins in singles as well. Honer won on court one in straight sets but not without some drama. The No. 67 singles player in the nation worked her way back from a 4-1 deficit in the second set to win it, 7-5. Over on court two, Kiss climbed her way out of an early hole too, bouncing back from a first set loss to win in three. Reuter completed the top-courts sweep on court three, winning her first set in a tiebreaker, then running away with the third set late to earn the victory.
However, Kiss, Honer, and Reuter's matches were the last three to finish, and the Ducks had already clinched victory in the match.
