SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (March 5, 2023) — Battling a Loyola Marymount squad which ranks among the top 75 in the country and rainclouds which refused to hold their water, the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team scored a pair of points in their Sunday afternoon dual match before ultimately falling, 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sunday's match was interrupted by rain on multiple occasions, and out of the first weather delay, LMU's top doubles pairing handed Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter just their second doubles loss of the season on court one, clinching the point for the visitors.

Honer and Reuter would bounce back in singles, but not without another rain delay first. The rain returned toward the end of the first set, when UCSB was in a good position, not just to take some points from the No. 62 Lions, but possibly to win the match outright, despite being a player down. The Gauchos won the first set on the top four singles courts, and both Honer and Reuter would go on to convert those leads into wins, each doing so in straight sets. Honer won her first set in a tiebreaker, and Reuter did the same for her second. Theirs would be the only wins for UCSB on the day, as LMU won, 5-2.
