SAN DIEGO (April 1, 2023) — Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter took down the nation's No. 12 doubles paring, and Honer added a ranked singles win as well on Saturday, but the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team fell, 6-1, to the No. 29 San Diego Toreros.
THE MATCH
Final: UC Santa Barbara 1, No. 29 San Diego 6
Records: UC Santa Barbara 2-12 (2-1 Big West), San Diego 9-6 (3-0 WCC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gauchos started strong, with Honer and Reuter defeating their third top-15 doubles opponent of the season on court one, but it was San Diego who took the doubles point, with wins on courts two and three.
Unfortunately for UCSB, Camille Kiss was forced to retire with an injury, leaving the Gauchos shorthanded for singles. The Toreros clinched the match, but up on court one, Honer made sure her team would not leave San Diego empty-handed. The sophomore took down her second ranked opponent in as many singles contests, this time knocking off the nation's No. 73 player in three sets.
