SAN DIEGO (April 27, 2023) – The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis season (6-15, 6-3 Big West) came to a close following a back-and-forth, hard-fought 4-2 loss to Cal State Northridge in the quarterfinal round of The Big West Championships.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A tight match across all three courts in doubles competition saw the Matadors earn the first point of the match. Cal State Northridge won 7-5 on courts one and two to earn the point.
The Gauchos quickly tied the match up after No. 56 Amelia Honer recorded a straight-set victory on court one, winning 6-0 and 6-1. The back-and-forth match continued as CSUN went up 3-1 after two singles competition wins.
UC Santa Barbara cut the lead in half after Camille Kiss earned a three-set victory on court two. Kiss defeated her opponent 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to earn the Gauchos' second point of the match. Down 3-2 the Gauchos were in two tight matches on courts three and five. Unfortunately, it would be the Matadors to earn the next point and win the match 4-2.
