Amelia Honer and
Marie Weissheim competed at the ITA West Sectional Championships for UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis this weekend. The doubles pair came away with third place to secure a spot in the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas later this month.
DOUBLES COMPETITION
Honer and Weissheim brought the heat in their first round matchup against Washington State, taking the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. They kept the momentum into the quarterfinal round that same afternoon securing a 6-1, 6-4 win over Pepperdine.
In the semifinals, the Gauchos faced UCLA winning the first set 6-2. They were unable to keep the rhythm heading into the second as UCLA forced a third set tiebreak where Honer and Weissheim fell 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.
With the top three doubles teams from the weekend set to head to the NCAA Championships, Honer and Weissheim played for third place on Sunday against No. 90 Washington. The pair would lose the first set 6-2. Down in the second set 2-3, Honer and Weissheim would battle back winning four consecutive sets and head into the tiebreak. Both teams battled point-for-point until the Gauchos pulled ahead at last for a 15-13 win.

Honer and Weissheim will travel to the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas beginning Tuesday, Nov. 19. Honer will compete in singles as well as doubles with Weissheim.
