Gauchos Earn Multiple Straight Set Victories at Dennis Rizza Classic

Box Score LOS ANGELES- The UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis team took away big wins this weekend at the Dennis Rizza Classic at the Jack Kramer Club hosted by USC. 

SINGLES COMPETITION
Five Gauchos went 2-0 on the weekend in singles. During Friday's singles matches, Marie Weissheim, Raphaelle Leroux and Tyra Richardson each took straight set victories over their opponents from LMU. Lucy Lu also defeated her Fresno State opponent in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 win. 

Lily Pradkin dominated in her opening match with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sein Myoung of Fullerton, named last year to The Big West Second Team in singles. Emma Tutoveanu and Katarina Vayser battled for singles wins with final scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 and 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, respectively.

In the following round, Weissheim forced a tiebreak against Women of Troy Champion Jana Hossam Salah for a 4-6, 6-3,10-4 victory. Pradkin took another impressive win over USC's Sloane Morra 6-3, 6-3. 

Four more Gauchos would take stellar victories over Saint Mary's: Richardson defeated top SMC player Iman Khan 6-4, 6-2, Carla Pacot won 6-3, 6-2, Tutoveanu won 6-1, 6-3 and Vayser rounded out the dominant day 3-6, 6-3, 10-3. 

Both Leroux and Lu's singles runs would end with losses to USC. 

DOUBLES COMPETITION
Leroux and Weissheim took the first Gauchos doubles victory with a 6-4 result on Friday. Pacot and Leroux also took their first win as a pair over Saint Mary's 6-4. 

Carla Pacot teamed up with Vayser going up against Fullerton on Friday but unfortunately walked away with a 6-4 loss. Tutoveanu and Pradkin also dropped their first match to Fullerton 6-4. They battled back against USC on Sunday for a tiebreak but ultimately fell 7-6(2). 

The pairing of Weissheim and Lu fell to USC in the tiebreak in Sunday's match. Lu and Richardson could not find wins over LMU and Saint Mary's ultimately dropping 6-3 in each match.

UP NEXT
The Gauchos travel to ITA Sectional Championships this weekend at USC with opening rounds beginning Thursday.
