Honer POTW x3 2024

Honer Closes in on Player of the Week Record with 11th Career Recognition

IRVINE, Calif. – As the UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis team enters the penultimate week of league action, The Big West announced the winner of its weekly women's tennis awards. For the second week in a row and the 11th time in her career, Amelia Honer has been named The Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The record for Player of the Week honors is 13 set by Becky Bernhard of UC Irvine. Honer pulls within two of tying and three of breaking the record in just her Junior season in the Blue and Gold.

Honer improved her singles winning streak to 11 straight matches after three straight-set victories this past weekend. She opened up the weekend with a blanking of UC San Diego's top player. The very next day she earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Cal State Fullerton's top player. The Gauchos would end the weekend against UC Irvine with their third match in as many days. Honer showed no sign of fatigue as she dominated her opponent with a 6-0, 6-3 win to help Santa Barbara sweep the Anteaters and stay perfect in league play.

In doubles competition, it was more of the same as the 35th-ranked pairing of Honer and Kira Reuter earned three wins not allowing their opponents to win more than two games. The duo has now won eight straight doubles matches and are currently 10-2 overall.

Honer and the Gauchos currently sit at 11-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in The Big West. UC Santa Barbara is currently the only team with an unblemished conference record as they sit a game up on CSUN. With two wins on Saturday against UC Riverside and CSUN the Gauchos will claim the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in The Big West Championships.
