INDIANAPOLIS – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis team will be sending two student-athletes to the NCAA National Tournament. Pablo Masjuan earned an automatic qualifying position for the 64-man singles championship. Masjuan and doubles partner Gianluca Brunkow earned an automatic qualifying spot in the 32-man doubles championship.
In singles competition this season Masjuan is 13-6 overall with all 19 matches being played in the No. 1 position. The senior went 3-2 against nationally ranked opponents including wins over the then ranked No. 75, No. 104 and the No. 120 players in the country. In The Big West Masjuan went 4-2 with all four of his victories being completed in straight sets.
During doubles competition, Masjuan and Brunkow went 9-3 and 1-1 in The Big West. The duo help three leads over the No. 8, No. 12 and No. 45 ranked doubles partnerships but all matches would go unfinished.
The singles and doubles competition will run May 20-25 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. The event will be hosted by Oklahoma State University.
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
