STILLWATER, Okla. – UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis student-athlete,
Amelia Honer, earned an upset victory in the Round of 64 during the 2024 NCAA Singles Championships Monday morning.
Honer got out to a quick 4-1 lead in the opening set, but the 23rd-ranked player from Notre Dame, Julia Andreach, rattled off three straight wins to even the match at four a piece. Honer remained unphased and won the next two games to win set one, 6-4.
The junior did not stop there as she dominated set two. Honer won the first game then the second game and did not stop until she blanked Andreach for a 6-0 set two-win. The straight-set victory pushed her into the Round of 32 which will take place tomorrow, May 20.
Honer will take on 11th-ranked Ayana Akli from South Carolina tomorrow in the Round of 32. The match time is still to be announced.
