STILLWATER, Okla. – UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis student-athlete,
Amelia Honer, earned yet another victory in the Round of 32 during the 2024 NCAA Singles National Championships on Tuesday morning.
Honer started strong with an impressive first-set win. The junior took an early 3-1 lead against 11th-ranked Ayana Akli from South Carolina. The two traded games until they reached a 4-4 tie. Honer then dominated, rattling off two consecutive games to take the opening set, 6-4.
In the second set, Honer once again gained an early advantage by winning two straight games. Aki managed to take one game before Honer surged ahead to a 4-1 lead. Aki claimed her last win of the day before Honer finished strong, winning the next two games to clinch the final set, 6-2.
Her win advances her into the Round of 16, which will take place tomorrow, May 22. She will take on 37th-ranked Julia Garcia Ruiz from Oklahoma. The Match time is still to be announced.
