Women's Swim Sets New Record After Day 1 of Navy Invitational

| By:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Gauchos have wrapped up the first day of competition in Annapolis for the Naval Academy's Fall Invitational. After the first day, the Women's team is in first place and the Men's team in second place behind the hosting Navy swim team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Even across the country, the Women's team made the Gaucho presence felt. Day one was highlighted by a new blue and gold record! Hazel Derr, Ashley Ray, Eugenie Lanilis and Samantha Banos swam a new school record 400 Medley Relay (3:37.53). This was not the only women's team relay victory; in the very first event of the day, the 200 Free relay, the Gauchos placed first as well, really setting the tone for the day. In the Men's 200 Free Relay, the Gauchos secured second place (1:20.14) and only added to the hot start for the blue and gold on the East Coast.

Samantha Banos brought home an individual first place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.76; Jack Nugent took second place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.83. Owen Berry brought home silver after day one in the 500 Free (4:22.04).

NEXT TIME OUT
The Blue and Gold will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10 am for prelims and 6pm for the finals of the 2025 Fall Navy Invitational - Day Two.
