Gauchos Host Two Dual Meets with Davis and UOP

SANTA BARBARA, Ca. – The UC Santa Barbara Swim Team will be at home this weekend. The Gauchos will host two dual meets, both at home here in the 805. Starting off this weekend's festivities on Sunday, Jan. 18, the Blue and Gold will host the UC Davis Aggies Women's team. Following the Women's clash with the Aggies, on Monday, Jan. 19, the University of Pacific Tigers will make their way into town to face off with the Gauchos where both Men's and Women's teams will compete. Events will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday as well.
Last Time Out
Monday will be the first time the Men's team is back in action since the Naval Academy Invitational back in November. The Women's team, however, just competed on Jan. 10. at the Bruin Quad-Meet along with UCLA, Utah, and Iowa. The Gauchos went (2-1) last weekend in Los Angeles, beating Iowa (UCSB 136 - Iowa 106) and Utah (UCSB 146.5 - Utah 92.5) , dropping the head-to-head competition with the hosting UCLA Bruins (UCLA 160 - 79 UCSB).
How It Happened
In the 50 Yard Breast, the Gauchos took Gold and Silver. Ashley Ray finished first with a time of 28.78, and Miranda Stevenson locked the top two finishes in with a time of 29.29. Ashley Ray brought back a second-place finish of her own in the 150 Yard Breast (1:40.74). Samantha Banos finished in First place in the 150 Yard Fly with a time of 1:29.17.
Look Ahead
After this weekend's meets, the Gauchos will travel to Claremont McKenna to compete on the 24th. Following that trip down south, the Blue and Gold will be back in the 805 for the UCSB Invite on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31. These last few meets begin the countdown to Big West and NCAA Championships in the coming months.
