SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team closes the month with their first Big West opponent, UC Davis, on Jan. 31 at 11 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos look to bounce back after a tough loss at ITA Kickoff Weekend last Saturday.
UC Santa Barbara dropped a 4-1 decision to Iowa in the opening round of the competition after narrowly losing the doubles point. Ekua Youri earned the Gauchos' lone point with a three-set comeback win at No. 1 singles, while several other matches were tightly contested, including two left unfinished as Iowa clinched the victory.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
UC Davis enters the matchup with a 2-3 overall record. After opening the season with a three-match losing streak and earning just one point across their first three matches, the Aggies rebounded at home with two dominant wins in a doubleheader against Pacific and Jessup, securing a 4-0 sweep of Pacific and a 7-0 victory over Jessup.
The team features a veteran core led by seniors Kaia Wolfe and Maya Youseff, along with juniors Mika Ikemori and Sophia Sappa. The Aggies also welcome two newcomers, adding one true freshman and one sophomore transfer to the roster. Head coach Sara Jackson returns for her second season at the helm after guiding the Aggies past the first round of the conference championships in her debut year. Jackson previously spent 19 seasons as an assistant with UC Davis.
