STOCKTON, Calif. – After a two-week break from competition, the UC Santa Barbara Men's Golf team is back in action at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational hosted by the University of the Pacific. The three-day tournament will span from Monday, Oct. 12 through Wednesday, Oct. 14.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos last competed at the William H. Tucker Invitational in New Mexico. The team finished T11, shooting 2-under par. Andrea Birolini came in T11 (-6), shooting a 68 (-4) in his opening round, leading to his best finish so far this year. Dylan Ma finished T8 (-7), shooting under par all three days.
THE FIELD
The Gauchos are competing against six Big West schools, including UC San Diego, UC Irvine, Sacramento State, CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, and Utah Valley. Along with those six, there will be 11 other programs competing, including Denver, Pacific, Southern Utah, USF, Seattle, Saint Mary's, Utah Tech, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, and Eastern Washington.
THE COURSE
The Reserve at Spanos Park, located in Stockton, CA, is a renowned links-style course designed by Andy Raugust. With panoramic sunrises and sunsets and beautiful views of Mt. Diablo, The Reserve offers a secluded and peaceful round full of wildlife. The course is a challenging layout; a par-72, 7,100-yard track offers a tough test for competing golfers. Golfers playing Spanos Park can have a rough time managing winds, lots of water hazards, and tight tee shots, though the course offers a few gettable par 5s where players can go at the green on their second shots. The Reserve at Spanos Park–featured in "Best of San Joaquin Magazine 2008, 2012, and 2013" and rated 4.5 stars in Golf Digest's "Places to Play"–is considered one of the best places to play in the county.
