SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Tennis claimed its first weekly conference honor of the season as
Shachf Liebermann was named The Big West Player of the Week. The junior showcased experience and resilience across a demanding two-day stretch against Florida State, Arizona, and No. 22 Texas Tech.
In the Gauchos' opening dual, Liebermann was narrowly edged by Florida State's M.B. Deatherage in a tightly contested 7-6, 6-4 match, displaying grit throughout the battle. While it marked her first loss of the weekend, it also set the tone for the determination she would carry into the remaining matches.
Her tenacity was on full display against Arizona, where she secured the Blue and Gold's lone point with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Danielle Tuhten. Perhaps her most impactful performance came in the final dual of the busy weekend. With the Gauchos trailing 0-3 against No. 22 Texas Tech, Liebermann delivered the first point of the comeback on court three, rallying past Mariia Hlahola in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Her win ignited the momentum shift as UC Santa Barbara went on to complete the 4-3 comeback victory.
Santa Barbara remains at home this week and will host No. 11 Stanford on Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. The matchup marks another opportunity for the Gauchos to test themselves against nationally ranked competition as they continue to build momentum early in the season.
