GOLETA, Calif. (Apr. 3) – The UC Santa Barbara Track and Field team wrapped up day one of competition across three meets – the Stanford Invitational, Mike Fanelli Distance Carnival, and Triton Invitational – highlighted by finals qualifying marks, and strong performances across events.
STANFORD INVITE
At Cobb Track and Angell Field, the day opened with the qualifying rounds for the 100m hurdles, 100m hurdles, and 100m dash. In the hurdles, Maddie Conte advances to the finals of the women's 100m hurdles after running 13.99 in the prelims, while Pryce Edwards qualified for the 110m hurdles final on the men's side with a 14.34 showing.
Matt Staples qualified for the men's 100m final with a 10.60, while Parker Halgren recorded a personal best of 11.89 and Amor Jones followed with 12.14.
In the 400m, Mattheo Lacasia placed fourth overall with a time of 47.36. Denny Dong added a personal best of 47.83, followed by David Slaughter and Noah Gordon. On the women's side, Kenna Bradley ran 55.58 and Briana Bartone followed in 56.41.
Natalie Lyons represented UCSB in the field, landing a mark of 5.28m in the log jump.
In the 400m hurdles, Conte returned to the track to clock 1:01.39, with Tjoe running a 1:01.6 close behind. For the men, Mac Lamkin posted a 54.01, while Julian Singell ran 56.40.
Staples capped the day with another strong performance in the men's 200m, placing fourth overall in 21.04.
MIKE FANELLI DISTANCE CARNIVAL
Over in San Francisco, the distance squad delivered strong showings, highlighted by the women's 3000m steeple and freshman performances. Sophomore Ryann Strawn led the 3k steeple with a fifth place finish and personal record of 10:48.18. Jana Barron followed in 10:58.46, while Keirra Sorrenson rounded out the group with another personal best of 11:10.93.
Freshman Addie Oversmith paced the women's 5000m squad with a 16:46.60 performance. Lexi Darley added a personal best of 17:37.94, while Danielle Hollander matched her personal best effort in 17:44.03. On the men's side, Nate Osborn led the Gauchos in 14:49.82, followed by Parker Stickney (15:03.28), Matthew Galindo (15:12.34), and Parker Herbert (15:20.04).
In the 1500, freshman Isabel Ross and Sierra Gill finished in 4:31.40 and 4:33.84 respectively. Niall Monteleone finished in 3:54.67, while freshman Will Mulliken posted a 3:57.76 performance.
TRITON INVITATIONAL
The Gauchos also saw action in the field at UC San Diego, highlighted by solid marks in the throws and pole vault.
In the women's hammer throw, Kayla Yap led UC Santa Barbara with a 10th- place finish at 54.66m, followed by Dimitra Vitogiannis (49.75m) and Cassidy Faulkner (49.11m). Vitogiannis returned in the discus to place 13th overall with a mark of 48.68m.
In the pole vault, Jarod Nunnemaker cleared 4.60m to lead the Gauchos, while Joey Wiseman added a 4.00m clearance.
