SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UCSB men's and women's swim teams faced off against Wyoming today at Campus Pool in their final home meet of 2014. Both teams swam hard against a strong Wyoming team, with the men finishing 130-132, and the women finishing 106-154.
The men started off their day with a win in the 200 medley relay. Senior Wade Allen (20.58) out-touched Wyoming's Ryan O'Leary (20.62) to seal a crucial relay win for the Gauchos.
Billy Mullis (1:41.77) took first in the men's 200 freestyle, with Eddie Sanchez (1:42.76) finishing third, and Clayton Young (1:42.92) finishing fourth.
Julia Mikota took home the first win of the day for the women in the 100 backstroke, coming in at a time of 57.83.
The Gauchos went one-two in the women's 100 breaststroke with Katie Records (1:03.62) taking first and Charis Hoppe (1:05.45) taking second.
The Gaucho men would follow suit in the men's 200 butterfly with Mickey Mowry (1:47.64) taking first and Chris Nolan (1:49.07) taking second.
Wade Allen took first in a close heat of the men's 50 freestyle, coming in at a time of 21.11.
Lauren Vosseler took second in the both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, with times of 24.04 and 52.85, respectively.
The women would take one-two in the second breaststroke event of the day, with Katie Records (2:18.68) taking first and Alyssa Shew (2:21.83) taking second in the 200 breaststroke.
Andy Castilleja (2:04.52) redeemed himself with a win in the men's 200 breaststroke, finishing almost a second before Wyoming's Kyle Scalise (2:05.49).
Mickey Mowry (49.53) out-touched Wyoming's George Eglesfield (49.61) for a crucial win in the men's 100 butterfly.
The Gaucho's will be back in the pool at the A3 Performance Invitational Nov. 20-22 at UC San Diego.
