PHOENIX, Ariz. – The No. 48 UCSB Men's Tennis team picked up its third straight victory today defeating Grand Canyon University 5-2. The Gauchos improve to a 4-3 record on the year having played all seven matches on the road.
The Gauchos got out to a great start as they swept the doubles round winning all three matches. The newly ranked No. 44 team of
Nathan Eshmade and
Miles Seemann had a tough run but came out on top on court one over Felix Schueller and Alexander Roggenkamp 7-6 (5).
With a 1-0 lead, the Gauchos would go on to win four of the six singles matches with three coming in straight set sweeps.
Freshman No. 84 Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, just recently moving up to court two, picked up his fourth straight singles win on the season winning in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4 over Schueller. Junior team captain Morgan Mays added a court three win to his team's score as he only dropped four games in his entire match. He defeated Roggenkamp 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Cody Rakela added his second straight win playing on court five and had the quickest outing of the day defeating Adrian Legarreta 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Anders Holm added the final win of the match for the Gauchos with a three set victory on court six as he faced Justin Cvitanovic. The Antelope took the first set from Holm, but the freshman battled back to win the next two 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Gauchos will remain in Arizona as they will face the No. 69 Wildcats of Arizona University on Monday afternoon.
