SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The UCSB men's and women's swim teams had a combined three individual second-place finishes, as well as second-place relay finish on day two of the MPSF Championship meet Thursday. Both the men and women closed out the day in fourth place, with the women sitting at 190 points and the men at 186. Hawaii, BYU, and Davis occupy the top three spots on the women's leaderboard while BYU, Hawaii, and Cal Poly lead the men's competition.
The Gauchos received second-place finishes from reining MPSF Freshman of the Year Dominic Falcon in the 500 Free (4:26.92) as well as from sophomore Christian Martinez in the 50 Free (20.13). In addition, the quartet of Tim Lee, Martinez, Zach Dietz, and Ryan Levy grabbed the second spot in the 200 Free Relay (1:20.38) to finish off the day's swimming events. Men's team captain Dan Marella secured third place in the 500 Free (4:27.35).
On the women's side, sophomore Maelynn Lawrence provided a second-place finish in the 500 Free, clocking in at 4:55.30. Women's co-captain Bryn McGowan and junior Sydney Rouse each contributed fourth-place finishes, McGowan in the 50 Free (23.47) and Rouse in the 200 IM (2:04.64). Additionally, junior Molly McCance finished fifth in the 500 Free (4:49.16). The relay team of women's captains Lexi Fusari and McGowan and freshmen Reagan Nibarger and Hannah Joseph touched fourth in the 200 Free Relay in 1:33.88.
The MPSF Championships continue Friday at Cal Poly's Anderson Aquatics Center in San Luis Obispo. No fans, parents, or spectators will be permitted. Click here for a schedule of events.
