SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— The UC Santa Barbara baseball team earned the series win over UC Davis Saturday, besting the Aggies in both games of the doubleheader. The Gauchos topped the Aggies 7-3 in game one and ended game two early, run-ruling UCD 12-0 win in seven-innings.

The Gauchos have now won three straight, all against the Aggies, and have improved to a 14-7 overall record with a 5-2 conference mark, while UCD falls to 5-15, 0-7.

Game One
Freshman Cory Lewis (2-1) took the mound in game one and tossed seven innings of one-run baseball, only allowing three hits in his second career win. The righty fanned five batters and walked just one. In his relief came Conner Roberts picking up his first career save by finishing off the final two innings.

UC Davis led off the game scoring its one run on Lewis in the top of the first, and the Gauchos responded immediately scoring at least one in the first three innings.

Zach Rodriguez tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI single that drove in Marcos Castanon.

The Gauchos got their first lead in the second with Leo Mosby and Cole Cummings each posting RBI singles of their own to make it 3-1. Steele Ledford gave them another in the third, collecting a sac-fly to center that was deep enough for Rodriguez to tag, score, and extend the lead to 4-1.

The game went quiet through the middle innings until the eighth when the Aggies began to mount their comeback, scoring two runs to cut the lead to just one.

UCSB turned around in the bottom half and gave it right back with three runs of its own. Christian Kirtley got things started with an RBI single, Michael Marsh followed with a sac-fly, and Cole Cummings finished with an RBI double to make 7-3.

Roberts closed the door in the ninth to give UCSB the win. The two teams would head to game two.

Game Two
With eight of the nine starters collecting hits in game two, the player of the game award goes to starting pitcher Rodney Boone, who went the distance tossing a complete seven-inning game. The southpaw sophomore shutout the Aggies allowing just two hits and a walk, while striking out six. He is now 4-1 on the season with a 1.42 ERA.

Michael Marsh, Jordan Sprinkle, and Broc Mortensen each saw multi-hit efforts with Mortensen posting a perfect 2-for-2 line with two runs and walk, and Marsh collecting two runs and three RBI.

The Gauchos hung a five spot on the scoreboard in the first inning, collected a single run in the third, and found six more in the fourth to earn the mercy win. They notched 11 hits and five of them went for extra bases.

The Gauchos will look for the sweep in the final game of the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM.
