McGreevy Tosses Complete Game Shutout as No. 28 UCSB Tops Hawai'i 3-0

Box Score

HONOLULU, Hawai'i—Sophomore slinger Michael McGreevy turned in the performance of the season thus far Friday night as the No. 28 Gauchos opened up their weekend series with a 3-0 win over host Hawai'i. UCSB has now won five straight conference games.

Earning just his second Friday start of the season, McGreevy did not disappoint tossing a complete game, 10-strikeout shutout against the Rainbow Warriors. The righty allowed just three hits, all of which were singles, and zero walks. He now boasts a perfect 4-0 record in seven starts with a 2.42 ERA.

McGreevy faced just 29 batters and threw 107 pitches, landing 67 of them for strikes. After allowing a single in the first, he retired eight straight batters, and then finished the game retiring the final nine in order.

The game remained tied until the sixth inning when the Gauchos finally got the bats going. It was Cole Cummings that stepped to the plate and extended his reached-base streak with a one-out infield single. The Gaucho third baseman has reached safely in every game this season.

Broc Mortensen was next cracking a single to right field that would allow Cummings to round the bag and slide into third. Zach Rodriguez put up the first runs of the night on 2 RBI single to left center that scored Cummings and Mortensen. That swing would stand as the game-winner for the Gauchos.

An insurance run came in the top of the ninth to help seal the deal for visiting UCSB as Michael Marsh entered the game as a pinch-hitter and collected an RBI infield single to make it 3-0.

Six different players contributed to the Gauchos' eight hits with Rodriguez and Bryce Willits each having multi-hit efforts. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with the two RBI, and Willits went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Mortensen, Nick Vogt, and Nick Oakley all got it done on the basepaths with each snagging a steal as well.

No. 28 UCSB will now look to Cory Lewis and Rodney Boone in tomorrow's Saturday doubleheader.
