Gauchos Put Together Strong Weekend at Steve Scott and Fresno Invites

IRVINE, Calif. - The UCSB track and field team had an incredible team effort this weekend at the Steve Scott Invitational and the Fresno Inviational notching a number of PR's and even a few Gaucho records. It was the most complete weekend for the Gauchos thus far and it came at a perfect time as the team ramps up for the Big West Championships.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Up in Fresno, senior Nick Randazzo hit a personal best in the 3000 steeplechase with his first sub-nine minute run. He placed 7th with a time of 8:58.50.
  • Down in Irvine, Jessica Boyd made history with the 5th best 100m dash time of 11.98. She took 10th in the race.
  • Kendall Martin topped her previous best in the javelin and once again etched her name into the record books with a toss of 43.64m. It now stands as the new, 4th best toss in Gaucho history and it earned her second place in the event.
  • A thrower on the men's side in Jared Freeman had a great outing as well as he launched the third-best discus toss in program history measuring 54.10m. It earned him fourth place and he now owns the third and fifth best throws for UCSB. Freeman also had a good showing in the hammer placing 6th with a throw of 57.56m.
  • Sophomore Amanda Spear and junior Gabriela Sanchez kicked off the Friday field events with top marks in the hammer throw. Spear had a podium finish with her 51.69m throw and would stake her claim again in the discus with a 48.17m mark. Sanchez would throw 50.30m for fourth place. Saloni Khandhadia was solid in the discus as well placing 6th with a toss of 47.24m.
  • Josh Godfrey tied for 6th in the long jump with a personal best mark of 7.19m.
  • On Saturday afternoon, senior Jarett Chinn would have a podium finish in the 800m, making it a competitive race as he crossed the finish line in 1:50.23 for second place.
  • A third place podium finish would be secured by junior Jiana Boston in the triple jump after she jumped 11.67m on her fourth attempt.
  • In the high jump, junior Graham Michiels placed fourth with a mark of 2.01m.
  • Lauren Gerhart had a strong showing in the 400m dash placing fifth with a time of 57.21 and right on her heels was Sophia Pardo who crossed at 58.30.
