FULLERTON, Calif. (May 4, 2023) – The UC Santa Barbara Men's and Women's Track and Field teams will send three athletes to the first part of The Big West Championships. Jessica Swalve, Brad Thomas and Matthew Molina compete in The Big West Championships Multis, happening tomorrow and Saturday, May 5 and 6.
These three have competed in numerous events throughout the season to prepare them for this weekend to score the most points possible to place at The Big West Championships. The men will compete in the decathlon, which consists of the 100, 110 hurdles, 400, 1500, long jump, shot put, high jump, discus, pole vault and javelin while the women compete in the heptathlon, which consists of 100 hurdles, 200, 800, high jump, shot put, long jump and javelin.
All three of these athletes competed in this event last season, placing highly for the Gauchos. Thomas and Molina finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, for the men while Swalve took home the gold for the Gauchos on the women's side. She will look to defend her title as she hit new PR's in all of these events this season while Molina and Thomas will work to bring home the win in this event.
