GOLETA, Calif. (Apr. 24) – UC Santa Barbara opened day one of the UCSB Invite with discus and shot put competition on Friday afternoon, highlighted by a personal best from heptathlete Amanda Eames in the shot put.
On the men's side, Chris Nora led the Gauchos in the discus with a fifth-place finish and a mark of 48.02m. Hudson Shaver followed closely behind in sixth at 47.93m, while Emmanuel Fitzgerald placed seventh with 43.66m and Isaac Duren finished ninth at 42.53m.
Dimitra Vitogiannis paced the women's discus group, taking fifth with a throw of 46.67m. Kayla Yap followed in sixth with a mark of 45.34m.
In the shot put, Nickolas Tamayo led the men with a ninth-place finish at 14.76m. Duren and Fitzgerald also competed, throwing 13.43m and 13.27m, respectively.
Vitogiannis added another fifth-place finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.65m. Isabella Vally placed seventh at 11.41m, while Eames recorded a personal best of 10.66m to finish eighth. Allison Tito rounded out the group with a throw of 8.51m.
