List of Competitors

UCSB heads out to UC Davis on Friday to compete in the two-day Big West Conference Multis Championships, sending a total of six Gaucho decathletes and heptathletes.

Sophomores Jessica Swalve and Sofia Bailey will represent Santa Barbara on the women's side. Swalve owns the highest heptathlon score in the Big West this year, scoring 5,024 points at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Apr. 13. Bailey enters the conference championships ranking third with her mark of 4,603 at the UCSB Invite on Mar. 9.

Last year, Swalve ended up second on the podium thanks to strong second-place performances in the javelin and 800m. Bailey finished a second behind Swalve in the 800m for third place in the event. She also took fourth in the long jump and finished fourth overall.

On the men's side, four Gauchos will be in action. Just as he finished third in last year's Big West Multis Championships, Matthew Molina owns the conference's third-highest score in the decathlon this season, thanks to his 6,746 at the UCSB Invite. Peter Michiels ranks fifth (6,619) in the Big West this season while Joshua Godfrey and Brad Thomas both come in at sixth (6,606).

Molina took a first-place finish in the 1500m (4:35.27) at the UCSB Invite, while Michiels' 2.06m high jump also ended up being a top score.

The decathlon events will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6 with the 100m. The heptathlon is set to start at 12:30 p.m. with the 100m hurdles. On Saturday, the decathlon kicks off at noon with the 110m high hurdles and 30 minutes later the hepathlon starts with the long jump.

OXY Invite
On Saturday, some Gauchos will have one final tune-up ahead of the two-day Big West Championships (May 13-14) at the OXY Invite in Occidental, Calif.

One Gaucho to watch out for will be Landon Mispagel in the 110 hurdles. His 14.99 mark from the UCSB Invite currently ranks 14th in the conference.

Jimmy Chahal is coming off a new personal-best 51.08 in the 400m at last Friday's Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine. He will be competing in the 800m at the Oxy Invite, coming in with a high score this year of 1:51.49 at the Aztec Invitational on Mar. 24.

Shelby Nelson will also be running in the women's 5k. The field events will begin with shot put at 11:00 a.m. while the running events kickoff at 1:00 p.m. with the women's 110m hurdles.
